Look! I finished my first sock! It was so satisfying, I immediately cast the second sock onto the needles and am sure already that they will be fraternal twins. OK by me – I made a sock!! Margo, your comments on my last two posts made my day – I can’t wait until I’m as proficient at socks as you.
It’s so close to the end of June and our time up North that I can hardly wait. I’m packing, working, teaching, grocery shopping, and prepping all of the things that need to happen before we can leave. John will be heading up again this weekend to do a big clean up of the building materials and scaffolding that he’s been using for his work on the ceiling and walls. He’s doing a beautiful job.
I chose the frame last week for my William Morris tapestry. We will be eating beans on toast for the next month but hopefully my family will agree that their sacrifice was necessary….
Stitching has also continued on my Frosty Forest SAL by Cottage Country Needleworks and I managed to finish up the third of nine designs, the Snowman’s cottage.
French knots….. sigh. Not my favourite, but they do make cute little eyes and wonky buttons.
Tell John the walls look FABULOUS!!!! Nice work!
I am thoroughly envious of your wilderness getaway!
The cabin looks lovely, the wood is timeless and so welcoming as part of a home, what a lot of hard work.
The sock is wonderful, you have made a very professional looking item with a perfect shaping, I have seen many first socks and this is in a whole other league ! You must be very proud of your amazing effort and the second one will be easier now that you understand the shaping.
There is nothing to compare with hand made woollen socks, I hope you enjoy wearing them and are able to find more sock yarn at end of season sales etc. because you just can’t stop at one pair, there are so many beautiful yarns and colours to try and the more pairs you have , the longer it will take for them to show any wear and need mending.
Good idea to keep a tiny ball of leftover for any mending.
Thank you so much! Yes – I am proud as punch with myself, it is certainly a skill I’ pleased to have added to my knitting arsenal. I must finish the second sock before I cast on another, but I do have another skein waiting in the wings 😉
Just a thought……I noticed your kitcherer stitch note nearby, because I am often out and about with my knitting I took a pic with my phone of those instructions and also the Yarn harlot way to join yarn, so I can jog my memory wherever I happen to be, great for travelling when you will be away from home more than a few days and take lots of knitting.
That’s a great idea! I do read the Yarn Harlot, but I’m unfamiliar with her joining method – could you point me in the direction of a post regarding that?
Sorry, I tried everything I could think of in the search box on the Yarn harlot blog, wouldn’t come up with it……However if you google ‘ magic knot join’, there it is, good video with 2 different coloured yarns.
Do your own little knots loosely to show method and take a pic on your phone.
I too have photos of knitting patterns on my phone, including grafting instructions. So useful!
The frame choice is meant to be and with the right matte board the result will be perfection, 100% worth any amount of bean days. : )
Wonderful progress on all fronts, Caroline 🙂 Wishing you and yours safe travels and a wonderful creative summer, Captain in the making. If you can stitch a sock and gorgeous thread pictures, I have confidence you can steer the boat! xx
Well done with all your finishes. They look great.
That view is swoon worthy! That is certainly something to look forward to seeing each day.
I am very impressed with the sock! Great frame choice!
what a bunch of great things going in your life!!! (cabin looks totally awesome!) and all the different fiber arts all going on at once! you go girl!!!
